Tierney Strachan manufactures subsea communication modem racks for Aker Solutions

Tierney Strachan manufactures Modem rack assemblies for Aker Solutions Subsea Control Unit (SCU) equipment. The racks are built according to Aker Solutions design information and with the exception of the modem card, are wholly manufactured at Tierney Strachan’s production facility in East Tullos, Aberdeen.

The racks incorporate a number of modem cards (determined by the number of subsea communication lines required), switch cards, transition and control cards. These are all individually built, tested and assembled into the modem rack for final testing. Tierney Strachan is responsible for PCB manufacture and procurement and testing of these parts.

Within the recent years Tierney Strachan has completed the following supply:

  • Murphy Oil Kikeh IWOCS and SCU (2 racks);
  • Marathon Alvheim SCU (2 racks);
  • Conoco Phillips Kerisi SCU (1 rack);
  • Conoco Phillips Britannia Satellites SCU (1 rack);
  • Dominion Devils Tower (3 standalone racks);
  • Total Dalia test rack (1 rack);
  • Statoil Kristin Test Rack (1 rack);
  • BHP Bilton Neptune (1 rack).
