Projects - Alwyn DeltaV 12.3 Upgrade

Tierney Strachan provides technical support during online upgrade of DeltaV system on Total North Alwyn platform.

When Total were looking to upgrade their Process Control System, they asked Tierney Strachan to provide technical support to Emerson Process Management and to manage the technical aspects of the upgrade. This involved attending meetings regarding the upgrade to provide insight specific to the control system on the platform, along with carrying out an onshore FAT in conjunction with Emerson to prove the viability of the new system.

In addition Tierney Strachan provided offshore support during the upgrade, managing the process to ensure all workstations, controllers and I/O cards were upgraded efficiently and with minimal impact on operations. Relying on the redundant controllers within the system, the work was able to be carried out while the plant was still operational, with no negative effects for the operators.

The system was upgraded successfully to the latest version, and at the same time two of the dual-screen workstations were upgraded to quad-screen, allowing operators even greater visibility of the process without having to change screens.
