Projects - Well Test Metering Upgrade

Tierney Strachan upgrades the Well Test Metering interface on Total North Alwyn platform.

The Alwyn Oil and Gas Well Test computers and the Dunbar Well Test computer were replaced with Spirit IT Flow-X/P flow computers to replace the old obsolete well test metering system.

New RS-485 serial links were implemented between the DeltaV PCS and the new flow computers, providing a simplex read/write link to each flow computer. The new serial links to each of the new flow computers consisted of approximately 200 tags, with all of the well test data made available to the site PI Historian.

The interface from the PCS for carrying out a well test was completely redesigned to simplify it, and was modified to work with the new flow computers. The PCS well test graphics were also remodelled to accommodate the new serial link data requirements.

Tierney Strachan’s scope also included destructing the old hardware, consisting of old serial cables; various convertors and a PI-API node which acted as a server and interfaced between the old the Alwyn Well Test Computer and the PI Historian.
